“The U.S. Chamber of Commerce rates all of the senators on their effectiveness towards business and business activities,” William Tasker, Caribou Chamber of Commerce executive director, said. “They consider a score of over 70 percent on all their criteria to be excellent and Senator Collins scored over 90 for years and years.”
Tasker said the Senator is no stranger to the award as she’s been awarded it multiple times. “She’s been awarded in Washington, D.C., Waterville and other places in the state and she really wanted to do it in her hometown,” he said.
The beach party music paused during the celebration to allow Sen. Collins on stage and accept her award, presented by Geoffrey O’Hara, executive director, Eastern Region, U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
“Thursdays on Sweden has been such a successful program in Caribou. I was so pleased to have the opportunity to participate in what has been a really enjoyable summer festival in the County,” Sen. Collins said in an interview afterwards. “I was also honored to receive The Spirit of Enterprise award from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for my support for small business and entrepreneurship.”
Last Thursday was the largest TOS event so far. There were over 70 vendors and an estimated 1,600 attendees, according to the parks and rec department. The Rock Dox commanded the tunes while folks partied up and smacked around beach balls that were dropped over the crowed from a fire truck ladder.
The city knows it would be impossible to carry out such a wonderful community event without the following sponsors: Sitel in Caribou, H and R Block, Daigle Oil Company, Plourde and Plourde, Soderberg Construction Company, Monica’s Scandinavian Imports, Machias Savings Bank, State Farm, Save A Lot, Cary Medical Center, Porvair Filtration Group, Griffeth Ford, Haney’s Building Specialties, SW Collins Company, United Insurance and Kieffer Agency.
The next and final TOS of the season is Thursday, Aug. 27, which is “Disco Night” with Motor Booty Affair.
