Woodland selectmen in no hurry to lock in oil prices

WOODLAND, Maine — The Woodland Selectboard met last week to discuss bids on heating oil, diesel fuel, and tax acquired property, among other issues.

Ultimately, the board decided not to lock in any prices for oil.

“I don’t think it should be high this year, so we may not have to lock in at all,” said Peggy Espling.

“Let’s put it under old business for now,” added Carl Grant, “and if we don’t lock in anything by next month we’ll just let it ride.”

According to the Selectboard, a few potential buyers expressed interest in the tax acquired property, which includes 16 acres of land, but no firm offers were made.

Amber Moutinho, administrative assistant and treasurer, provided a financial update.

“For the Tri-Community, we just about even out when you consider the year-to-date statistics. Motor Vehicle Excise for July was $23,706.28 and for year-to-date, we’re only down by $693. As far as 2015 taxes, as of July 31st we have collected 61.6 percent and as of today we’ve collected 64.56 percent, which is pretty good.”

The board of selectmen found no issues regarding code enforcement, agreeing that everything is going well.

Steve Dumais, road commissioner, gave the Highway Department Report.

“We got the loader back together, we’ve been doing some ditching on the Colby and Goodwin road. We salted the leftover sand, and we’re getting ready to haul in our winter sand in a couple weeks.”

The selectmen called the Aug. 18, 2015 meeting to order at 4:35 and adjourned at 4:58 p.m.
