WOODLAND – Roberta F. Sherman, 84, passed away August 27, 2015 at her Woodland residence with her family by her side following a long and hard fought battle with lung cancer. She was born in Bath, June 19, 1931, the daughterofthelateCecilAmos and Harriet Maud (Wallace) Doughty Sr.

She attended the Chebeague Island School and in 1962, she married Earl Sherman. Mrs. Sherman loved to crochet and was an avid reader. She and her late husband, along with her children, ran a vegetable stand in Coventry, R.I. for many years.
She is survived by her children, Cecil Gilliam and wife, Wanita, of SC, Leonard Gilliam and wife, Kim, and Willis Gilliam and wife, Regina, all of Caribou, Michael Gilliam and wife, Cheryl, of Woodland, Paula Sherman of Washburn, Harriet Brown and husband, Freddie Jr., of Woodland and Sandra Skidgel and husband, Wayne, of Wade; one brother, Cecil Doughty Jr. of Chebeague Island and Portland; twenty-six grand-children; 47 great-grandchildren; a son-in- law, Preston Brown, Sr.; and a special favorite relative, George Jones; as well as many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sherman was predeceased by a son, Robert Gilliam Jr.; a daughter, Cindy Brown; two stepsons, Earl Sherman Jr. and Leonard Sherman; two brothers, Lawrence and Alfred Doughty; and a sister, Devona Wheeler.
Friends called at the Mockler Funeral Home, Caribou 6-8 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Monday, August 31, 2015 from the Chapel of the Mockler Funeral Home. Interment was in the Woodland Cemetery. www.mocklerfuneralhome.com
