Spud Speedway holds final races of 2015
The final races of the summer at Spud Speedway in Caribou were held Sunday.
The Senior Champ Karts race went to Damian Theriault of Caribou, followed by Tom Hale of Westmanland.
Brayden Thibodeau of Caswell beat Bryan Searles of Presque Isle in the Junior Champ Karts event.
For Street Stock, Tharren McDougal of Fort Fairfield took the checkered flag, while JR Howlett of Mapleton was second and Jeff Willette of Presque Isle third.
Glenn Rasmussen of New Denmark, New Brunswick was first in the Pro Stock division. Matt Farnham of Presque Isle and Robert Tomlinson of Arthurette, N.B. were second and third, respectively.
Wayne Fox Jr. won the Enduro competition, with Dell Brissette in second and Wayne Fox Sr. third. All are from Caribou.
Ian Rasmussen of New Denmark, N.B. captured the title in Northern Lights, with Matthew Lloyd of Drummond, N.B. in second and Ralph Levesque of Presque Isle taking third.
Elks to host soccer shoot
Presque Isle Elks Lodge 1954 will host its annual Soccer Shoot Contest on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 9 a.m. at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. The contest takes place behind the Gentile Hall athletic building.
This soccer contest is free and is open to all youth under 14 years of age as of Aug. 1, 2015. There will be divisions for boys and girls and four age categories for the contest — under age 8; ages 8-9; ages 10-11 and ages 12-13. Trophies will be awarded to the winners in each division and age group.
Winners will be eligible to move on to the District Soccer Shoot to be held in October. District winners will compete in a State Soccer Shoot contest on Oct. 21, to be held at the Augusta Elks Lodge. The Presque Isle Elks will pay for the travel expenses of local winners in relation to the state contest.
Contestants in the categories under age 10 will attempt to kick a soccer ball through five different size goals.
For contestants in the two older age categories, a standard soccer goal will be marked out into grids. Contestants will attempt penalty kicks, with the greatest points awarded to kicks in the upper corners of the goal.
The Elks will be serving grilled hot dogs, soda and chips, which will be free to all contestants and their parents.

Officiating class
Basketball officiating school for new officials will be held Mondays and begins Sept. 28 at Presque Isle High School.
The class will be held from 7-9 p.m. and the cost is $40. For more information on the class and the specific location, contact Harry Orser at 425-4451.
CMS girls win pair
The Caribou Middle School girls’ soccer team picked up a couple of wins over the weekend, topping Presque Isle Blue by a score of 4-1 on Friday night and Fort Fairfield Saturday, 3-0.
Friday’s win avenged the Lady Vikes’ only league loss of the season. Taylor Skidgel led the way with two goals, while Emily Adler and Kimmy Susi scored one each. Abbi Allen, Elsie Patton, Edie Shea and McKenna Smith each had an assist.
On Saturday, Emma Hixon scored two goals, each assisted by Susi, and Smith picked up her first career goal, assisted by Shea. Goalkeeper Sage Dubay earned the shutout in net.
The squad is now 5-2-3 on the season.
Viking middle schools gain 3 victories
The boys’ middle school soccer team at CMS topped Madawaska, PI Blue and Fort Fairfield in impressive fashion last week.
Last Wednesday, the Vikes topped the Owls, 4-1, behind the goalkeeping of Jacob Paul and the defense of Jacob Berkoski, Sawyer Deprey, Benoit Levesque, Riley Bouchard and Jordan Duplissie. Ethan Holdsworth scored two goals and recorded an assist, while Cullin Caverhill added a goal and two assists and Parker Deprey tallied a goal. Alex Bouchard picked up an assist.
In Friday’s 2-0 blanking of PI Blue, which avenged an early-season loss, Holdsworth and Caverhill scored the goals, while Alex Bouchard and Caverhill had assists.
The following day, Caribou downed Fort Fairfield, 6-1. Alex Bouchard scored twice, while Holdsworth, Parker Deprey, Brevin Barnes and Sawyer Deprey netted one apiece.
Coach Steve Perreault said Tiernan Barbosa, Corey Herbert, Carter Belanger, Hayden Hunter, Logan Cheplic and Joseph Cimino were among the other solid contributors for the Vikings in the three matches.
