Highlights from ‘the Daughters’ history

     During 1951-1960:  A library fund was established; a bookcase was bought and maintained at the library where Catholic books were bought. Prayer books were purchased, money was given to the Catholic Relief, money was donated to the Knights of Columbus to help repair the K of C Hall.  And $1,000 was donated to Holy Rosary Church and Reverend Clement Thibodeau was ordained in 1958, and we served at his reception.

     A bell fund was started when the church burned in 1954 and money raised was given to the church.

     1961-1970:  Daughters worked hard to help rebuild the church so many money-raising projects were done.  One project was for speakers for the new organ.  Money was donated to Fr. Parent’s TV program. The new church was dedicated on July 6, 1962, and the Daughters were involved in the celebration. We donated money to the new rectory and packed clothing for a Thanksgiving Drive for the needy.

     100 Baptismal robes and 20 stoles for the church were purchased.  Money was donated to help sponsor a youth to the CYO Basketball tournament and a student to Special Olympics in Chicago.  We purchased a new carpet for a chapel at the convent and a duplicating machine for the nuns.    Money was donated towards a piano for the church as well as a car for the Sisters.  In 1973 a going away party for Sister Simone was well as a reception for the Sisters of Presentation.  A donation was made to the Christian Life Center and we bought a record player with records for the CCD program.

     1980:  We donated money to John Paul II’s trip to America in 1980.  And started the Layette for needy mothers, which is still going on today.  During this period of time, an Altar Cloth for the Offertory Table and the Lectern was made. We have members teaching religious education; serving as Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Cantors, or serving on different committees.  We also participate in Holy Hours of Adoration on First Fridays.

     On September 28, 1986, a ground-breaking ceremony was held for the new parish center and we were there helping with the ceremony/refreshments. Donating time and money.

     In 1984 Caribou celebrated its 125th Anniversary.  A special Mass was celebrated at Holy Rosary Church.  Holy Rosary also celebrated its 10oth Anniversary.  The Circle was involved in the celebration and Lorraine Cox wrote the history of our parish for this event.

     A new organ was purchased for the church, and we donated $500 towards the purchase.

     We helped sponsor students to the CYO Conventions.

     Dedication of the Parish Center was held on October 4, 1987.  The Religious Education teachers were commissioned at this time and our first meeting at the center was October 6, 1987, and we furnished the sweets for this occasion.

     The Lazurus Ministry was implemented during this period of time and is ongoing today.

     1992:  Ivory Soap bars were collected (1,200) and shipped out to the needy.  Donations were made to Catholic Appeal.  Money was donated to Right to Life.

     In 1992 fall:  Rosaries were collected for Russia and sent.  Vocation Crucifix Program was implemented and the Crucifix would remain one month at a time at a member’s house and prayers were recited daily. $1,000 was donated to the rectory for kitchen renovations.

     For the Christmas food baskets, we donate non-perishable items each year to assist the parish.  Some of our ladies help the Caribou Food Pantry.  Money is donated to the local food pantry.

     A donation of $500 was made towards the renovation of Our Lady of the Rosary Statue.

     $250 in 2006 was donated for the cost of new altar robes for our servers.

     2007 we donated $500 towards new doors for our church.

     2009 to present: $1,000 each year has been donated to the Holy Rosary Fuel Fund.

     2011 the Blue Mass was celebrated at Holy Rosary with Bishop Richard Malone, we provided the food for the reception afterwards for all who attended the function.

     Fifth Annual June Parish Picnic, the Daughters had a table set up showing what the Daughters of Isabella are all about, with scrapbooks on display.

     During the past 25 years we have support the local Boy Scouts with donations and Girl Scouts with a place to hold meetings and donations. We support the local DARE Program and invite the person as a speaker and provide donations.  Many of our members are involved in our local Bible Study courses and Prayer Groups here at the church.  We support Project Graduation, Diabetes Walk, Ronald McDonald House in Bangor, Vacation Bible School, Smile Train, Annual Breast Cancer Walk, Bread of Life (baking for cancer patients), Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund, EDGE Youth Program, and many more through donations of time and money.

     This is not all inclusive but gives a general overall coverage.
