CMS boys claim Aroostook title

     The Caribou Middle School boys’ soccer team won its final seven games, clinching first place for its division of the Aroostook League along the way.

     Coach Steve Perreault said the team’s strong finish was a product of excellent defense, tremendous passing and an outstanding offense.

     The Vikings bested Presque Isle Blue, 2-0, behind goals from Ethan Holdsworth and Cullin Caverhill. Alex Bouchard assisted on Caverhill’s goal and Caverhill had the assist on Holdsworth’s. Jacob Paul had the shutout in goal.

     In a 6-0 win over Fort Kent, Caverhill had a hat trick, while Parker Deprey and Holdsworth added a goal and two assists each. Bouchard scored a goal and Benoit Levesque chipped in with an assist.

     Caribou handled Houlton, 8-1, scoring seven times in the first half thanks to some unselfish play that led to the goals. Deprey had three goals and an assist and Holdsworth had three goals and three assists. Caverhill picked up four assists and scored a goal himself, while Brevin Barnes tallied a goal and Bouchard an assist.

     The Vikes blanked Ashland, 4-0, as Hayden Hunter, Deprey, Bouchard and Caverhill notched a goal apiece. Cory Herbert was strong in goal.

     Other standout contributors during the four games, and throughout the season, were Brandon Jalbert, Carter Belanger, Logan Cheplic, Joseph Cimino, PJ Thornton, Sawyer Deprey, Jacob Berkoski, Riley Bouchard, Tiernan Barbosa, Jordan Duplissie, Ryan Austin, Ari Plante and Alden Wilcox.

     The team finished with an 11-1-1 record, with Holdsworth (13 goals, nine assists), Parker Deprey (12 goals, seven assists), Caverhill (eight goals, nine assists) and Bouchard (10 goals, five assists) the statistical leaders. Caribou outscored its opponents by a 51-13 margin and posted five shutouts.
