Viking girls earn championship

     The Caribou Middle School girls’ soccer team wrapped up its season recently with a win over league rival Houlton. With the win, the Lady Vikings captured the 2015 Aroostook League championship by ending up with a 3-1-2 record. Aroostook League members include Houlton, Presque Isle Blue and Presque Isle White.

     Against Houlton, Emily Adler scored just 1:13 after kickoff and Caribou held on for the win, as neither team was able to score for the remainder of the game. Goalkeeper Sage Dubay made two saves on three shots as the Lady Vikes’ defensive unit of Maddie Stratton, Elsie Patton, Alya Theriault and Riley Cavagnaro did a tremendous job controlling the Lady Shires’ attack.

     On the season, Caribou finished with a 6-4-3 overall mark. Adler was the scoring leader, posting eight goals and an assist. Kimmy Susi scored six goals and added three assists, while Edie Shea contributed three goals and two assists.

     Team members are eighth-graders Susi, Victoria Leavitt, Cavagnaro, Abbi Allen, Renee Stubbs, Patton, Taylor Skidgel, Paige Espling, Theriault, Adler, Stratton, MacKenna Smith, Emma Hixon, and manager Abbie Robbins; seventh-graders Shea, Hannah Tarbox,  Dubay, Macy Wakem, Abby St. Peter, Livia Bouchard and manager Emily Collins; and sixth-graders Mia Theriault, Abbie McNeal and Mia Thibodeau.
