Cider- The cider jugs have begun filling up. A man drove into Biddeford the other day with a barrel and drank more than he sold.
100 Years Ago – November 10, 1915
New street opened– The new street connecting Sweden Street with Herschel Avenue is now completed and opens up a new section. It passes directly by the new post office site, giving the government a corner lot, which was one of the stipulations before selections.
B&A– During the month of September, the B&A Railroad had 1,796 employees on its payroll, disbursing a wage of $116,665.13, and purchasing supplies locally amounting to $10,206.
75 Years Ago – November 14, 1940
Bargain Days– A group of 30 or more Caribou merchants plan to join hands next week to offer the public in the area a two-day merchandising event “Caribou Bargain Days”. “Bargain Days” will allow shoppers to purchase their winter needs at remarkable savings and to assist the merchants in moving some of their present stock before Christmas.
New skating rink– An announcement was made today that a new roller skating rink is to be constructed in Caribou and to be ready for operation sometime before Thanksgiving. Location of the rink will be in the Albair building on South Main Street. The rink will be available for private parties, according to manager Edward Knowles.
50 Years Ago – November 10, 1965
Hotel improvements– Hotel Caribou reported an operating profit of $9,427 during its fiscal year ending Oct. 31, a substantial gain over the previous year. Improvements are also being made, including renovation of the cocktail lounge with the addition of nine more bar stools, early American-style furniture and a new furnace.
Show Your Colors– Operation “Show Your Colors” has been launched in Caribou by the American Legion and Town Manager Charles D. Hatch. The campaign was announced as a countermeasure to the anti-Vietnam anti-draft demonstrations taking place throughout the country.
25 Years Ago – November 14, 1990
Supporting incumbents– Despite more than half a foot of snow Tuesday, Aroostook County voters polled fairly heavily, helping to re-elect incumbents in every congressional office and for state governor. Nearly 65 percent of the state’s registered voters turned out, according to unofficial returns for the Nov. 6 general election.
