McElwain and Grass lead way in holiday race

Nearly 100 runners burned off calories from their Thanksgiving meal two days earlier by participating in the Caribou Turkey Trot 5K Road Race, held Saturday at Caribou High School.

Coming away with overall victories were Spencer McElwain of Kennebunk, a Caribou native who won the men’s title in 16 minutes and 20.4 seconds, and Brittany Grass of Blaine, who was the women’s victor in 22:14.2.

After McElwain, rounding out the overall top 10 were Isaiah Brown of Houlton, 18:05.7; Mitchell St. Peter of Caribou, 18:50.7; Thomas Beckum of Caribou, 19:02.9; Chathu Karunasiri of Caribou, 19:39.9; Dan Randolph of Caribou, 19:40.9; Caleb Hunter of Caribou, 19:49; Joseph Ewings of Littleton, 20:00.5; Ethan Holmes of Houlton, 20:09.5; and Thomas Krause of Fort Fairfield, 20:25.9.

Grass placed 16th out of 98 total runners. The other top females were Lisetta Shah, who was 21st in 22:41.7; Angela Ewings of Littleton, 22nd in 22:49; Julia Page of Caribou, 23:19; and Theresa St. Peter, 24:42.
