CARIBOU, Maine — Claire Martin and Emmie McIntyre, respective third- and fourth-grade students at Teague Park Elementary, won a ride to school in a fire truck last week.
This is part of a yearly contest, in which Teague Park Elementary School students create posters for the fire department, and the best third- and fourth-grade poster artists are rewarded with a special ride to school.
“This is an annual event that the Fire Department puts on, and we’ve always participated,” said Teague Park Principal Steve Austin. “Each year there is a different theme. This year the theme was making sure smoke detectors are present in all bedrooms.”
According to Austin, the criteria for judging the posters was to make sure it touches the theme, and also the amount of time and effort each student put into their creation.
“The winning posters epitomized this criteria,” said Austin. “They were directed toward representing the theme of smoke detectors in bedrooms.”
“I know all the students worked really hard on their posters, and I hope they learned something about fire safety in the process,” Austin added.
