BANGOR, Maine — Fort Fairfield junior midfielder Ryan Player garnered the Maine Soccer Coaches’ Player of the Year for Class D boys during the organization’s 42nd All-Star Banquet held Dec. 6, 2015.
Player starred for the Class D state champion Tigers, which amassed an overall record of 17-0-1, and was honored for his brilliant two-way play on the soccer field.
He made the boys’ Northern Maine State Team along with fellow Aroostook County standouts Michael Hunter of Caribou and Ryan Chasse of Fort Kent. Others on the elite squad are Carson Atherley of Bangor, Jennings Souza of Brunswick, Tristan Fong and Josiah Krul, both of Camden Hills; Nick Gilpin and Kyle Townsend, both of Hampden Academy; Abdulkarim Abdulle, Maslah Hassan and Abdi Shariff, all of Lewiston; Lukas Firestone of Ellsworth; Antonio Ayala of Foxcroft Academy; and Andrew Prescott and Andrew Speed, both of Central of East Corinth.
Ashland players Mackenzie Carter and Caitlin Paradis were named to the girls’ Northern Maine State Team. Three members of the Houlton Shiretowners, Katie Condon, Chelsea Gentle and Natalie Hill, also made the squad. Others honored were Emily Gilmore of Bangor, Gretchen Wright of Brewer, Maeve Arthur of Brunswick, Emma Gutheinz and Charlotte Messer, both of Camden Hills; Torri Pelletier of Mt. Ararat, Erin Doiron of Mt. Blue; Alex Allain and Brianna Saulter, both of Hermon; Opal Curless of Mount Desert Island, Makenna Brooks of Oceanside, Becky Lopez-Anido of Orono; and Amy Hallett and Sami Ireland, both of PVHS of Howland.
Other awards given out during the evening were Coaches of the Year, All-New England and All-America.
