CMS boys squad concludes successful season

     The Caribou eighth-grade boys’ basketball team picked up three easy wins before falling to Houlton in a close game to finish its season with a 9-3 record.

     Jake Berkoski scored 21 points and Parker Deprey 17 in the 72-42 win over Fort Kent Dec. 9. Benoit Levesque was hot from the perimeter and added 13 points.

     Berkoski’s 26 points led the way in the 54-30 trouncing of Presque Isle Dec. 10. Deprey had 15 and Alex Bouchard eight for the winners.

     Caribou netted 11 three-pointers in the 71-35 win over PI on Dec. 14. Berkoski hit five of them to total 19 points, while Deprey had a game-high 24, including four threes. Alex Bouchard added 10 points to go along with his 12 assists.

     Houlton swept the season series with a 74-71 triumph Dec. 16. Caribou hit nine more three-pointers, but Houlton’s size was too much. Deprey had 24, Berkoski 18 and Bouchard 17 to lead the Viking offense.

     Cullin Caverhill, Brandon Jalbert, Logan Cheplic, Cameron Ouellette, Jacob Paul, Joey Gregson and Jay Belanger were other solid contributors for the Vikings.

     Deprey ended up leading the team in scoring with 18 ppg, with Berkoski averaging 15, Bouchard 13 and Paul 11. Both Deprey and Bouchard shot over 70 percent from the foul line and Bouchard was the team’s assist leader. Caribou had 52 three-point field goals on the season.
