FORT KENT, Maine — Community High School’s Jordan Tanguay just beat Madawaska’s Isabelle Jandreau for the top spot at the Dec. 21 five-kilometer freestyle Nordic race at the Fort Kent Outdoor Center.
The Fort Kent skier finished one second ahead of Jandreau, clocking a time of 18:18 in the snowy weather. Caribou skiers Kendra Furber (18:53) and Madeline Gudde (19:00) were third and fourth, respectively, and helped their team to a second-place team finish behind only Madawaska.
The top Presque Isle skier was Tori Koch, whose time of 19:28 was good for seventh place. Kassandra Nelson of Ashland (22:14) was 15th and Sarah Watt of Fort Fairfield (23:01) 22nd to lead their respective teams.
On the boys’ side, Presque Isle’s Max Bartley was the top finisher in the boys’ race, with a time of 15:08. Caribou’s Riley McDuffie was only three seconds behind and finished in second place.
David Roy of Fort Kent was third, followed by Dan Randolph and Caleb Willett, both of the Vikings. Randolph finished in 16:08 and Willett in 16:33 as the Vikings placed first overall with 19 points, ahead of runner-up Fort Kent, which posted 33.
Ashland’s Malcolm Milligan was sixth in 16:35 and Thomas Krause of Fort Fairfield took 10th in 16:53. James Cyr of Limestone/MSSM crossed the finish line in 18:51 to take 26th.
Monday’s Nordic action was only the second meet this season, which got off to a rocky start following the cancellation of the season’s first competition due to a lack of snow. The next one is set for Jan. 5 at Presque Isle’s Nordic Heritage Center.
