Marine Corps League recognizes advocates

Doody and Bosse recognized for their loyalty to veterans

CARIBOU, Maine — The Marine Corps League recently recognized two of its local advocates during a meeting of the Cary Medical Center Board of Directors. Kris Doody, RN and Cary CEO, and Phil Bosse, local office representative for Sen. Susan Collins, were recognized for their loyalty to veterans.

The award recognized Doody for her loyalty and patriotism. Doody has established Cary Medical Center as the meeting place for the MCL detachment. Craig Fay, Commandant of the League, said that Doody has been key to the success of the organization and is a true veterans’ advocate.

“Kris Doody has been the ultimate supporter for veterans here in Aroostook County,” said Fay, who served as a Marine in Vietnam. “She invited us to hold our monthly meetings here, she has been a tireless advocate for Project ARCH and her door is always open to hear of veterans issues. We are pleased to be able to honor her for her efforts and to have our plaque hang in her office among her other multiple awards.”

In accepting the award Doody praised the success of the Marine Corps League over the past year for its level of activity.

“I am honored to accept this award and to continue Cary’s tradition of welcoming our veterans and thanking all of our men and women who have served our nation,” said Doody, who has been to Washington, D.C. in front of Congress to advocate for the permanent funding of Project ARCH.

“The Marine Corps League has a home here at Cary for as long as they desire to meet here, and we congratulate Craig and his leadership team on an outstanding year for the organization,” she said.

Also honored was Phil Bosse, state office representative for U.S. Sen. Susan Collins. The award also recognized Bosse for his exemplary loyalty and patriotism. Fay said that Bosse was a great help in the launching of the Detachment 1414 and has a personal connection to the organization.

“When I wanted to get the league started, Phil was a great help,” said Fay, who was recently re-appointed as the detachment commandant. “Phil has excellent handiwork with matting and crafting wooden frames. He completed the framing for our League Charter and for our Vietnam Commemorative Poster as well as the ‘Sands of Iwo Jima’ that are permanently mounted in the Chan Center at Cary Medical Center.”

Bosse, who works at Sen. Collins’ Caribou office, said that he was surprised and honored by the presentation.

“This was something I was not expecting,” said Bosse. “It is my privilege to advocate for our veterans and I was pleased to do the framing work for the league. This impressive certificate will hang in a place of honor in our office.”

The Meo Bosse Detachment 1414 meets at Cary Medical Center the third Saturday of every month in the Chan Center at 2:00 pm. For more information on membership or associate membership contact Fay at 551-9824.
