CARIBOU, Maine — The RSU 39 school board will be holding an informational meeting at the Performing Arts Center regarding the new elementary school project. The meeting, which is slated for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016 will last roughly one hour. The straw poll immediately follows the informational meeting at 7:30 p.m., allowing Caribou, Limestone, and Stockholm residents to cast their vote.
The school board is working alongside PDT Architects in Portland, a firm that has constructed several new schools in the state of Maine. The architects at PDT have analyzed Caribou land and tested potential areas for a new school based on a numerous factors. Their findings will be presented at the informational meeting prior to the straw vote, allowing citizens to make an informed decision regarding the placement of the new school facility.
Plans to build a new Pre K-8 school in Caribou have been discussed for several months. According to Superintendent Timothy Doak, major aspects of the project will be paid for by the state of Maine, and it is possible that the project could have no burden on the local taxpayer.
In the event of a snow cancellation, the meeting will be moved to Jan. 19. The school board urges those with additional questions to contact Executive Secretary Laurie Chapman at 496-6311 or via email at lchapman@rsu39.org.
