Cyr earns spot on U.S. biathlon team

     FORT KENT, Maine — Brendan Cyr of Caribou joined Cody Johnson of Fort Kent as skiers from Aroostook County who qualified for a spot on the U.S. Youth World Biathlon Team.

     They earned berths based on their performance at the USA Youth and Junior Biathlon World Team Trials, held Dec. 27-30, 2015 at Kincaid Park in Anchorage, Alaska.

     Both Cyr and Johnson were competing as part of the Maine Winter Sports Center team.

     Both qualified for the Under 19 group, and are eligible to compete at the Youth/Junior World Championships Jan. 25-Feb. 2, 2016 in Cheile Gradistei, Romania, and at the 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games Feb. 12-21, 2016 in Lillehammer, Norway.

     Also skiing with the Maine Winter Sports Center and earning a spot on the team was Brian Halligan of Gansevoort, N.Y.

     Other New England skiers earning spots last week on the national Junior and Youth teams were Sean Doherty of Center Conway, N.H. and Chloe Levins of Rutland, Vt.
