Caribou resident arrested for firing at police

CARIBOU, Maine — Norman “Jody” Plourde, 43, of Caribou dialed 9-1-1 and threatened to shoot Caribou police officers on Jan. 7, 2016 at 11:30 p.m. This call led to a stand-off at a Liberty Street residence in which Plourde fired multiple handgun rounds at the police. Despite the gunfire, neither Plourde nor the police were harmed.

Caribou Police, assisted by Maine State Police and the Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department, attempted to reason with Plourde, who eventually surrendered his weapon after 20 minutes.

Plourde was taken into police custody and transported to Cary Medical Center for a physical evaluation, where it was discovered that alcohol played a major role in this encounter.

According to the Caribou Police Department, they have not had any run-ins with Plourde for at least five years, but alcohol was also involved in their last encounter.

Plourde is being charged with Class C criminal threatening with a firearm, Class B aggravated reckless conduct and Class E discharging a firearm near a dwelling. He is currently being held at Caribou Police Jail with a bail set at $50,000 in cash only.

Caribou Police are not able to elaborate on whether or not the Liberty Street residence belonged to Plourde.

As of Jan. 8, 2016, no court date is set.
