Annual Fiddler’s Jamboree planned

Local musicians invited to take part in Feb. 7 event

FORT KENT, Maine — Organizers of the 2016 University of Maine at Fort Kent Fiddlers’ Jamboree have put out a call to area musicians and entertainers to join the festivities.

Performing artists are encouraged to pick up an instrument, warm up their vocal cords and turn out to participate in this popular musical event, which has been called the biggest jam session in Aroostook County. Organizers are looking for local talent to participate in the concert and house party, which the university holds every year on the UMFK campus.

The university will host this year’s jamboree, which has become a St. John Valley tradition, on Sunday, Feb. 7, from 1-4 p.m. in the Fox Auditorium.

The event will bring together talented musicians for an afternoon of impromptu performances of astonishing skill, which promises to delight music lovers of all ages. In the past, the session has drawn both performers and an audience from throughout Aroostook County and western New Brunswick.

The jamboree exceeds its popularity each time it comes around, and the attendance has grown over the years. In addition to being an event that audience members look forward to each year, the jamboree also is a favorite of the musicians who perform.

Organizers invite and encourage fiddlers, guitarists, other acoustic musicians and singers to take part in the Sunday afternoon concert.

Interested participants should contact the university in advance of the jamboree by calling Susan Tardie at (207) 834-7557 or toll-free at 1 (888) 879-8635, ext. 7557, or Warren Harvey at (207) 834-3939.
