The Loring Job Corps Honor Guard helped move shelves, as well as the old carpeting, last Friday. Library Director Lisa Neal Shaw has worked with Job Corps students before when she was the the Mark and Emily Turner Memorial Library in Presque Isle.
“They are awesome to work with,” said Shaw. “They’re very efficient, so we decided that they were our best bet for the project. Once they finish, the contractors can get in and do what they need to do without having to worry about moving our stuff.”
According to Shaw, the city is helping with the cost of removing the old carpet as well as the environmental cleanup. Library staff are excited for the new project, but admit that the atmosphere is a bit hectic due to the renovations.“Hopefully some semblance of order will start to be restored when we reopen on the eighth,” said Shaw.Members of the Job Corps Honor Guard were glad to help out with the project.“We were just asked last night if we wanted to help clear shelves out at the library because they were doing maintenance,” said Ilias Cabrera, “so I gathered Jon, Nick and Jason, and now we’re here.”“We’re here helping out the community and doing volunteer work,” added Nicholas Hutchinson, “that’s what the Honor Guard is all about.”“We appreciate everyone’s patience,” concluded Shaw. “It may look a little rickety when we first reopen and set up, but it’s going to be worth it in the end. We think it’s going to look pretty nice. We appreciate people hanging in there with us and are very excited.”
