WHITINGHAM, Vt. — The North Atlantic Conference (NAC) announced the 2016 Women’s Basketball All-Conference teams recently and senior guard Victoria McIntyre of Mars Hill has been selected as the Player of the Year, junior guard Chandler Guerrette of Presque Isle was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year and was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team and head coach Kissy Walker was chosen as the Coach of the Year.
McIntyre and Guerrette earned all-conference first team honors, while freshman guard Kenzie Worcester of Washburn was named to the second team.
McIntyre has had a fantastic senior year with the Eagles as they finished the regular season with an overall record of 19-6 and a near-perfect 17-1 mark in conference play. Impressively, the senior ranked in the top-six in the NAC in made three-point field goals (second, 37), points per game (fourth, 13.7), rebounds per game (sixth, 7.8), and defensive rebounds per game (sixth, 5.4). The guard also finished the regular season tied for seventh in assists per game (2.7), ninth in three-point percentage (36.6%), and 10th in free-throws made (42-64). Earlier this season, McIntyre earned a spot in Husson program history as she surpassed 1,000 points. The senior claimed two NAC Athlete of the Week honors this season and is the seventh Eagle player named player of year during Walker’s coaching era.
Guerrette has been a solid presence for the Eagles throughout the season. The guard averaged 10.7 points against conference opponents, while shooting 44.9 percent (61-of-136) from the field, 49.2 percent (29-of-59) from beyond the arc, and 68.9 percent (31-of-45) from the charity stripe. Her three-point percentage ranked her second in the conference, while her made three point goals were good for sixth, her field goal percentage took ninth, and her points per game were 11th best. The 2014 NAC Rookie of the Year also tallied 3.5 rebounds, 2.6 defensive rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.2 steals in NAC conference play.
Walker, in her 25th season at Husson, is being recognized by her peers as NAC Coach of the Year for the fifth time (2004, 2009, 2010 and 2011). She led the Eagles to their third-consecutive 15-plus win season this year and has posted a 170-44 record in the NAC and an impressive 444-240 mark throughout her career. After compiling a 19-6 overall record in the regular season, recently won the conference championship.
Worcester ranks third in the conference and leads the team with 13.4 points per game. She is fourth in the NAC with a 42.7 three-point shooting percentage and fourth with 2.3 steals per contest. Worcester is the best in the conference at the free throw line, making 87 percent of her attempts from the charity stripe.
Joining Felix, Guerrette, and McIntyre on the All-NAC First Team were Castleton senior guard Jade Desroches and UMaine-Farmington senior forward Meghan Smith.
Second team selections included Castleton senior forward Bryanna DuPont, Husson’s Worcester, Johnson State junior guard Domonique Carter-Stanley, and New England College junior guard Marjani Lillard and junior forward Breana Ramirez.
New to the conference this season is the selection of a Sportsmanship Team which is reserved for those who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior. The honorees are individuals who have positively affected the women’s basketball culture and game environment and whose behavior clearly demonstrates sportsmanship and integrity that go beyond the playing rules and etiquette.
The following 10 individuals have been selected to the sportsmanship team: Castleton senior Ali Jones, Colby-Sawyer senior Jessica Shenkel, UMaine-Farmington’s Ferry, Green Mountain senior Torie Cowell, Husson’s Guerrette, Johnson State senior Allyson Bruckner, Lyndon State senior Aimee Thompson, Maine Maritime senior Rebekah Campbell, New England College senior guard Maranda Parker and Thomas junior Tess McClenahan.
