CARIBOU – George R. Stubbs, 68, husband of Betty (Tilley) Stubbs, passed away Friday morning, March 11, 2016 at a Caribou nursing facility following an extended illness. He was born October 20, 1947 in Caribou, the son of Lothrop and Thelma (Doody) Stubbs. He attended Caribou schools and was a member of the Caribou United Baptist Church. He worked for Hillcrest Chicken Farms in Lewiston for over 10 years. One of the most interesting times of his life was when he met his movie-star idol, John Wayne, and shook his hand. He was also a huge Caribou Vikings fan.
He was predeceased by his father, and is survived by his wife, Betty, and his mother, Thelma Cochran, two sisters; Barbara Loggans and her husband, Donald, Shirley Fortin; and one brother, Bernard Stubbs, all of Caribou; a special aunt, Irene Wheaton of Portland, as well as many nieces and nephews. George’s family wishes to thank his social workers, Sharon, Debbie, Mary, Kim, and Tammy for making his final years wonderful. They would also like to thank the Cary Medical Center and the Caribou Rehab and Nursing Center for the exceptional care given to George during his illness.
Friends called Monday, March 14, 2016 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou where the funeral service was conducted at 1 p.m. with Pastor Troy Heald officiating. Spring interment will take place at the Evergreen Cemetery, Caribou. www.mocklerfuneralhome.com.
