The Presque Isle girls and boys, the LCS/MSSM girls and the Washburn boys captured titles last week in Aroostook League volleyball tournaments played throughout the region.
The Wildcat girls won the Div. I tourney played at Caribou High School Thursday, beating Caribou in the finals, 25-18, 25-17.
The Vikings had the best record following the round-robin portion, going 8-1, with Presque Isle at 6-3, Madawaska at 4-5 and Houlton at 0-9. The Owls bested the Shires in the consolation finals, 25-13, 25-14.
The all-tournament team consisted of PI’s Skylar Vogel and Regan Nelson, Caribou’s Jenna Boucher and Eileen Patton, Emma Hines of Houlton and Aspen Cote of Madawaska.
PI went 8-1 for the top record in the round robin, while Madawaska went 5-4, Caribou 3-6 and Fort Kent 2-7. Making up the all-tourney team were PI’s Connor Murchison, Craig Gendreau and Lucas Gendreau, both of Madawaska; Brandon Theriault of Fort Kent and Austin Scott and Devin Martin, both of Caribou. The boys’ Div. I tourney was held the same day at Presque Isle High School, with the Wildcats scoring a 25-14, 25-15 victory over Madawaska in the championship match.
On Friday, the girls’ Div. II tourney took place at Washburn District High School. Nine teams competed, with LCS/MSSM of Limestone topping Ashland in straight sets in the finals.
The Hornets and Eagles held the best records following the round robin, with Ashland going a perfect 8-0 and LCS/MSSM going 6-2. Easton (6-2), Hodgdon (4-4), Katahdin (4-4), Washburn (4-4), Fort Fairfield (3-5), Central Aroostook (1-7) and GHCA (0-8) were the other squads competing.
In the semifinals, Ashland defeated Washburn in the best-two-of-three match, while LCS/MSSM swept past Easton.
Delaney Rossignol of LCS/MSSM was named the MVP and headed up an all-tournament team which also included teammate Francesca Armstrong, Natasha Klinger of Central Aroostook, Teresa Maynard of Fort Fairfield, Laura Sturgeon of Ashland, Molly Cunningham of Katahdin, Abigail Angotti of GHCA, Grace Braley of Washburn, Tabitha Ganzel of Hodgdon and Blake Bradley of Easton.
Fort Fairfield was the site of Saturday’s boys’ Div. II tourney, which saw Washburn best Easton in the championship match, 25-14 and 25-8.
Ten teams participated and were divided into two pools. In Pool A, Washburn went 8-0, while Ashland was 6-2, Hodgdon 3-5, GHCA 2-6 and Wisdom 1-7. In Pool B, Easton recorded a 7-1 mark, followed by CA at 5-4, Fort Fairfield at 4-4, LCS/MSSM at 2-6 and Katahdin at 1-7.
Washburn reached the finals by beating CA in the semis, 25-8 and 25-17. Easton’s route to the championship included its 25-14, 25-20 semifinal victory over Ashland.
McCall Turner of Washburn was voted the MVP. Other all-tourney players were Parker Thompson of Washburn, Jarrett Beaulier of Ashland, Wyatt Foster of Hodgdon, Jed Grant of GHCA, Chance Gervais of Wisdom, Hunter Brown of Easton, Dustin Pryor of CA, Thomas Krause of FF, Sam Carignan of LCS/MSSM and Devin McGraw of Katahdin.
