Loss of local Chamber of Commerce a big mistake

     To the editor:

I am a little disturbed at this time with the citizens and leadership of the city of Caribou. I went to Caribou schools, quit school at the end of my junior year, joined the Navy, served two years there, was discharged and returned to Caribou where I graduated with the Class of 1947 instead of my original Class of 1945.

I have always been very proud to be a citizen from the city of Caribou, however I am noticing lately that we seem to want to let Presque Isle take the lead, the most recent change was allowing Presque Isle to displace the city of Caribou’s Chamber of Commerce. Are we getting to a point that we are all getting lazy and don’t want to assume leadership in our fair city?

Now if we want anything pertaining to Caribou in the form of marketing and development to be done, we’ve got to call Presque Isle. Only recently we at the Caribou Historical Society offered the Chamber of Commerce space for a desk, file cabinet and whatever else was needed so that the Chamber could retain offices in Caribou. This would have been perfect as both the Chamber and Historical Society would benefit from the exposure.

The Chamber turned it down and now we see the Caribou Chamber at the mercy of the Presque Isle Chamber of Commerce. It won’t be long before Caribou Chamber has no identity whatsoever as it will all be going to Presque Isle.
