Former Caribou couple mark 60th anniversary

Gilman and Marilyn Martin, formerly of Caribou and now of Alden, N.Y., celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Nov. 8, 2015, at an event hosted by their four children.

The couple were married Nov. 12, 1955.

Gilman was born in 1931 to Levi and Clara Martin in Caribou, the youngest of six children. Marilyn “Marylene” was born in 1937 in Van Buren to Rene and Mildred Vaillancourt, a middle child of 10.

Gilman worked as a welder and then supervisor at Welding & Steel Fabrication for many years, as well as in part-time farming and home improvement, and as an inventor.

Marylene worked for many years flipping houses, homemaking, house cleaning, then lastly for the Veterans Administration in Buffalo, N.Y., where she was quickly promoted from cashier to supervisor.

Their children include Leigh Martin of Alden, N.Y.; Debra (St. George) Martin of Lancaster, N.Y.; Timothy Martin of Akron, N.Y.; and Monica (Farrell) Martin of Alden, N.Y.

They have 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
