FORT FAIRFIELD — Michael L. Neptune, 66, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away unexpectedly Friday evening, April 22, 2016 at Caribou healthcare facility.
He was born October 28, 1949 in Iola, Kansas, the son of Norman C. and Margaret A. (Wallen) Neptune. Michael was a graduate of the Canyon City, Colorado school system and received his master’s degree in business administration with a major in accounting from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. Michael served his country with the United States Navy from 1968 to 1972 as a Petty Officer Second Class aboard the submarines Sea Fox SS402 and the James Monroe SSBN622. He had been employed for a number of years in Massachusetts by National Grid Electric and most recently for the T.S.O. at the Presque Isle Regional Airport. He was married to Joan E. Roberts on August 11, 2007. Michael greatly enjoyed outside activities including, hiking, skiing, fishing and gardening on his property in Easton where he enjoyed experimenting with different crops including grapes, and his favorite flower the purple iris. He also enjoyed volunteering at the World Cup Biathlon in Presque Isle. He was a very proactive, easy to get along with person who possessed a great sense of humor. His family will remember him as an outstanding husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Neptune was predeceased by two brothers, Edward L. and Patrick L. Neptune; and by his mother and father-in-law, Joan, and Philip “Gee” Roberts. He is survived by his wife Joan of Fort Fairfield; two sons, Gregory M. Neptune of Derry, NH, Tyler M. Neptune of Chelmsford, MA, currently stationed at NATTC Navel Air and Technical Training Center, Pensacola, FL; one daughter, Heather Lynn Schlauch and her husband, Eric of Derry, NH; one brother, Norman “Bud” Neptune and his wife, Debbie of Dawn, MO; one sister, Patricia Oleson and her husband, Junior of Chillicothe, MO; one grandchild, Ayden Schlauch of Derry, NH; numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind two brothers-in-law, Stephen P. Roberts of Fort Fairfield, Philip D. Roberts and his wife, Terri of Bangor; two sisters-in-law, Jean C. Roberts of Brewer, Mrs. Edward (Joann) Neptune of Chillicothe, MO.
Friends called Monday, April 25, from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. The funeral service was conducted at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 170 Main Street, Fort Fairfield with the Rev. Kevin Kinsey officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshment was held after the service at the St. Paul’s Church reception hall.
Interment with military honors was conducted Tuesday, April 26 at 10:00 a.m. at the Northern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 37 Lombard Road, Caribou.
