Mother and son charged with Caribou area burglary

CARIBOU, Maine — Three local people, including a mother and son, were arrested Thursday in connection with a burglary at a home on Sweden Street.

Matthew Cocheran, 24, along with Kerry Simoneau, 38, and her son Damian Simoneau, 22, all of Caribou, were each charged with burglary and theft, according to a news release issued Monday by the Caribou Police Department.

A resident called police on May 1, 2016 to report that her home had been burglarized and that several items had been stolen.

While investigating, Officer Chad Cochran received a tip four days later that a young man had been cashing in amounts of change that were relatively large when compared with his current funds. Supplementing this with other information he had received, the officer identified the three suspects and arrested them.

All three were taken to Aroostook County Jail with bail set at $2,500 cash each.

According to a jail officer, Kerry Simoneau was released Monday afternoon, but Cocheran and Damian Simoneau remained incarcerated Monday evening.
