Caribou High alumni honored
CARIBOU, Maine — Not all County schools have a Hall of Fame to honor their notable alumni, and Caribou was no exception until recently.
The concept and a vast majority of the necessary work behind the Alumni Hall of Fame at CHS was handled by students in the National Honor Society. The result of the students’ hard work will culminate in the inaugural Hall of Fame induction May 21, 2016 at 7 p.m. in the Caribou Performing Arts Center.
Students created a website where members of the public could decide which CHS graduate was most deserving of the award. After analyzing the votes, a selection committee narrowed it down to six inductees to the inaugural class: Olof Pierson, Admiral Gregory H. Johnson, U.S. Senator Susan Collins, Kris Doody, Jessica Meir, and Jason Griffeth.
All inductees have achieved success in their respective fields. Pierson, a 1924 graduate, is credited for inventing the modern french fry business. Johnson was a four-star Admiral in the U.S. Navy. Collins currently serves as Maine’s senior United States Senator. Doody is the CEO of Cary Medical Center in Caribou. Meir is an astronaut with NASA, and Griffeth is the grounds director at the Daytona International Speedway in Florida.
The upcoming induction was organized by the NHS, and will include a celebration and reception. Those interested in attending can RSVP to Kenneth W. Atcheson II, NHS Adviser, at katcheson@rsu39.org.
