Chief Stacey Mahan clarifies several items on budget
LIMESTONE, Maine — Selectpeople met with the Budget Committee to discuss the police budget and one-time warrant articles for the upcoming Limestone Town Meeting in June, 2016.
Limestone Police Chief Stacey Mahan attended the meeting and clarified certain items on the police budget, such as the $7,000 line item for office expenses.
“My understanding is that we are going to be paying our portion of fax and photocopy fees,” said Mahan. “Plus we’ve ran into problems with cell phone expenses. I’d still like to see us get a better deal for the phones, especially since they’re all on one bill now.”
Other items, such as a 24-hour police schedule just barely passed with a 5-4 vote by the budget committee.
Once all line items were discussed, the committee voted to recommend $273,393 for the 2017 police budget.
In addition, the budget committee recommended all three one-time warrant articles for the upcoming town meeting.
Two articles, one involving $12,000 for a new Parks and Recreation vehicle and the other involving $3,000 for a website upgrade, were unanimously recommended by the budget committee.
The other one-time warrant article involves appropriating $10,000 from the Economic Development Fund for a part-time economic and community development person. The committee voted 7-2 in favor of the article.
