CARIBOU, Maine — The Caribou Parks and Recreation Foundation is pleased to partner with the City of Caribou for the inaugural Caribou Marathon, set to be held on Sept. 18, 2016.
The Caribou Parks and Recreation (CPR) Foundation is a non-profit charitable foundation whose mission is for “development and presentation of recreational programs and facilities targeting all age levels with a common goal of health improvement and life enrichment.” Through this partnership with the City of Caribou, helping organize the Caribou races, the CPR Foundation has been the recipient of a grant through Maine Community Foundation to assist with various expenses of the marathon, including but not limited to marketing and organization expenses.
In conjunction with the partnership, CPR Foundation has also sponsored a water stop during the race course that they will be hosting. As an official qualifier race, there are a mandatory number of water stops that must be offered to race participants throughout the course. Six other businesses will be water stop sponsors. A portion of the proceeds from the race will be donated back to CPR Foundation to assist with further programming and development.
The Boston Marathon qualifier race is the first of its kind to be held in Aroostook County and programmers anticipate the event will be well attended this year and continue to grow in the following years. Participants may choose to participate in a wide variety of events, from full to half marathons and relays to a kid’s race, to hand-cycle and wheelchair races.
Both runners and walkers are encouraged to participate, but registration ends Sept. 1.
