Playground, more coming this summer
Trafton Lake in Limestone is where families go to camp and enjoy summer. Families with little ones can look forward to a new community playground (similar to this one) coming to Trafton courtesy of the Lowe’s Heroes Project.
After hearing about the Lowe’s Heroes Project from a friend, Irma LaBreck quickly put together a letter explaining why Trafton Lake deserved a playground. She crossed her fingers and slipped her letter in the mail.
“We have nothing to gain if we don’t try,” LaBreck said.
There’s really no place for kids to play at Trafton Lake, save an old swing set, according to LaBreck. She wanted her grandkids to have a place to have fun and a place that would attract more folks to the lake.
LaBreck, along with other members in her community, formed the Trafton Lake committee last year. The group is focused on beautifying Trafton and a new playground would do just that.
It didn’t take long for LaBreck to hear from Lowe’s in Presque Isle.
“I was so excited when I got the call,” she said.
Lowe’s offered $2,500 for the project and the town of Limestone has stepped up to match that amount. The matching funds will come from the Trafton Lake account.
Along with a playground, Lowe’s will help with new picnic tables, trash cans, landscaping and more.
“The Lowe’s Heroes Project is a great way for us to give back to the community,” Wendy Bencivenga, Lowe’s project specialist, said.
The new playground will be constructed later this summer. Members of the Presque Isle Lowe’s and local residents will come together for two days to put together the new play area.
Over the past several years, the Presque Isle Lowe’s has helped with projects around The County. The Lowe’s Heroes Project helped build a playground in Crouseville, perform work on the 9/11 Memorial in Ashland and helped spruce up the homeless and animal shelters in Presque Isle.
Non profit organizations are encouraged to contact their local Lowe’s and submit a letter explaining why their project could use a hand from the Lowe’s Heroes Project.
