SUMTER, SC — Elizabeth Clara Barnum Short, age 77, beloved wife of the late Carroll Edwin Short, died on Thursday, July 21, 2016, in Charlotte, NC.

Born in Woodland, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Stanley Guy Barnum and Martha Louise Nadeau Barnum. Mrs. Short loved cooking, gardening and taking pictures of family and friends. She was loved by everyone who met her and was a genuine and humble person. She had a great sense of humor with a beautiful laugh and smile. She was a dedicated member for over 40 years at Dalzell Baptist Church.
Surviving are: two daughters, Donna Short of Belleville, IL and Darlene Cierzniewski and her husband Matt of Lake Ronkonkoma, NY; one son, Douglas E. Short of Charlotte, NC; one sister, Marion Flanagan and her husband Sidney of Casco, ME; two grandchildren, Ryan Cierzniewski of Pompano, FL and Alexa Cierzniewski of Lake Ronkonkoma, NY along with many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Stanley “Sonny” Barnum and three sisters, Pearl Barnum, Ruby Kost and Gloria Finnemore.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Dalzell Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Barnette officiating. Interment followed in the Ft. Jackson National Cemetery at 1 p.m.
The family did receive friends on Monday, July 25, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at Bullock Funeral Home.
