PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Aroostook Retired Educators (AREA) will meet Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016 at the Edmunds Conference Center on the campus of Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle.
Registration will be at 11 a.m., with a buffet luncheon served at noon. The cost of the meal is $14.
In keeping with AREA’s continued interest in and support of education, the program will feature guest speaker Dayna McCrum, Future Farmers of America state president, who will discuss her trip to Africa and the agriculture she observed there.
The business meeting will follow, during which the AREA constitutional changes will be presented for the second reading. The updated version and many other items of interest can be read at the AREA website, educdoc.wix.com/area.
Following the business meeting, the Remembrance Service will honor those educators who have passed this year.
At the July meeting, Paul and Leola Bouchard of Fort Kent were honored for their dedication, enthusiasm and commitment to the group. They were awarded handcrafted pens, lifetime membership and certificates of appreciation for their outstanding dedication.
AREA’s continued involvement in community service is accomplished through donations to the Bulging Backpack Project and to the local food pantries. Donations of school supplies will provide a northern Aroostook school with a supply closet of necessary tools for students. Donations of non-perishable food items will help to stock local food pantry shelves.
