CARIBOU, Maine — Roughly 50 guests attended an engaging science lecture at the Caribou Library last Thursday, aimed at children aged 4 to 12.
The speaker, who goes by the pseudonym “Catalyst Corey,” is part of the Mad Science program, an organization with franchises across the globe with the objective of bringing science to children in a manner that is as entertaining as it is informative.
“Catalyst Corey” educated and entertained kids at the library, and later during Thursdays on Sweden, with lessons about how science affects the world around them with a presentation that encouraged audience participation.
Also known as Corey Cleary, Catalyst Corey is an artist and educator from Portland, who began his teaching career at the Glen Urquhart After-School Program in Beverly, Massachusetts as an animation instructor. According to Katie Wilcox-Bosse, youth services director at the Caribou Public Library, the presentation was made possible via $1,000 grant from the Boston Bruins hockey team.
Library Director Lisa Neal Shaw was responsible for obtaining the grant while Wilcox-Bosse took care of the programming, announcements, and arrangements for the visit.
