Big projects could start at Loring

LDA president says developments are at various stages at Commerce Centre

LIMESTONE, Maine — Governor Paul LePage hinted at the possibility of big developments at the Loring Commerce Centre while he was in Fort Fairfield last month, and while LDA President and CEO Carl Flora is not yet willing to go into detail, he can confirm that a number of large projects are currently in development.

“We’ve been working on several projects that are related to Maine Military Authority and the imminent relationship they have with Loring Industries, which is a start-up company we have put into play.”

Flora says the LDA expects some investment in Loring Industries and “with that, some projects that are along the lines of what Maine Military has currently been doing, such as refurbishment contracts.”

As far as commenting on LePage’s statements, the CEO says that, if he was referring to the Loring Commerce Centre, then “it would be a combination of projects that we are working on through other industries.”

“There are projects in the early development stages and others that are close to coming together,” Flora said.

While the LDA president is unable to get into the specifics, he says that “in every case,” the projects are related to the refurbishment of equipment and servicing.

“We will certainly be talking about these projects once they come together,” Flora said. “They will definitely be newsworthy.”
