ALLAGASH, Maine — Democratic Senate candidate Troy Jackson of Allagash has received the endorsement of the Maine Education Association (MEA) for his support of students and educators in the state of Maine.
Jackson, a logger by trade, is the former majority leader in the Maine Senate, and is looking to return to the Senate to represent District 1.
“Members of the Maine Education Association enthusiastically endorsed Troy Jackson for State Senate. MEA members are well aware the critical role legislators can play in supporting our local community schools,” said Lois Kilby-Chesley, president of the Maine Education Association. “Jackson is committed to funding our schools properly so we can give every child opportunities to learn and realize their potential, regardless of zip code. Our schools face many challenges, and we need more legislators in Augusta that share his commitment and passion for schools, students and educators.”
“As a son of a former teacher, I understand the importance that educators play in the lives of our young people,” said Jackson. “I am proud to receive their backing.”
In 2009, he received the MEA Friend of Education award.
The Maine Education Association represents 25,000 current and retired teachers and educational professionals throughout Maine and is dedicated to supporting legislation that supports and improves public education.
