Town meeting scheduled for Sept. 21, 2016
LIMESTONE, Maine — On September 21, Limestone will hold a town meeting in which residents can decide if they want to allocate $53,390 towards a project that will add sidewalks to High Street, Huggard Avenue, Vernon Street, and Foster Avenue. If a decision is made by the end of September 2016, state and federal grants will fund 90 percent of the project, which would otherwise cost $533,900 without any aid.
Town Manager Fred Ventresco is currently working to reserve the Limestone Community School auditorium as a spot for the upcoming meeting. If the reservation falls through, then it will be held in the town office. Ventresco says that, once he receives confirmation, flyers will be posted in various spots in town, so residents will know in advance.
In order to be eligible for the 90 percent reimbursement, the town needs to agree on adding a sidewalk to High Street, while the other, smaller sections are optional.
“The Budget Committee recommended the project,” said Ventresco, “but decided not to recommend the Huggard Avenue portion.”
