PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Rep. Bruce Poliquin is sponsoring the fourth of five workshops run by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help Maine Fire Departments apply for FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program.
The session is Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016 at 6 p.m. at the Presque Isle Fire Department at the North Street public safety building.
“The 400 municipalities in Maine’s 2nd District are dependent on the important life-saving services provided each day by their local fire departments,” said Poliquin. “I want to thank our brave, hard-working firefighters for their selfless efforts and make sure they have the resources and tools needed to keep their crews and communities safe. I am proud to sponsor these workshops for the second year to help our fire departments be better prepared to submit quality Assistance to Firefighter Grant applications to FEMA and hopefully be successful in receiving them.”
Since 2001, the AFG program has helped firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards. At the regional workshops sponsored by Congressman Poliquin, participants from Maine fire departments will learn about the AFG program and tips for submitting a strong application.
Registration is not required. For more information about the AFG workshops, contact Poliquin’s local office at 764-1968.
