PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The fall season holds great importance in the cancer community. September is Childhood Cancer Month, and October is Breast Cancer Month in the United States. On Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 CompetitorME will honor Aroostook County’s very own who are affected by cancer, have lost a loved one to cancer, or who are caregivers or professionals to those with cancer.
The Sock It to Cancer fundraising run will benefit the Presque Isle-based Caring Area Neighbors for Cancer Education and Recovery (C.A.N.C.E.R.), who bring awareness and respect for those living with cancer right here in Aroostook County. In support of this mission, CompetitorME is donating all proceeds from Sock It to Cancer to C.A.N.C.E.R.
The event will kick off on Saturday, Sept. 10, at Mantle Lake Park in Presque Isle. The final event of the CompetitorME Community Wellness Series, Sock It to Cancer includes a Kids 1 Mile Fun Run and 5K (3.1 mile) run or walk.
New this year, participants may pick up packets and register on Friday, Sept. 9, from 4-6 p.m. at Bike, Board, and Ski in Presque Isle. Registration on event day is from 7-8 a.m., with the Kids Fun Run beginning at 8:15 and the 5K beginning at 9 a.m.
Participants may also pre-register online; visit www.competitorme.com.
Sock It to Cancer is the final event in the newly launched Community Wellness Series. This series was created by CompetitorME to encourage youth and adults to make fitness a lifestyle.
CompetitorME events are designed to be an experience rather than a race, including both walkers or runners, and all ability levels. The first 100 registrants get Atayne event shirts, a finisher medal, age group and overall awards, chip timing, personalized bibs, plus a fully supported and staffed course.
Community Wellness Series partners are Emera Maine, Machias Savings Bank, Huber Engineered Woods, Bike Board & Ski, Caribou Eye Care, Collage Beauty Studio, MMG Insurance, MOJO, United Insurance and Whited Ford Truck Center.
