Vikes place second in Ellsworth XC

Limestone Eagles win cross-country relay competition

     The Caribou girls’ and boys’ cross country teams each placed second at the Ellsworth Invitational, held Saturday.

     Orono captured the titles. Ten schools participated in the annual event.

     The Viking girls scored 74 points — 10 behind Orono and 10 ahead of third-place George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill. Sophomore Ashley Violette was the first Caribou runner to cross the finish line, doing so in 21:35.61, good for eighth overall in the field of 68. Madeline Gudde took 11th in 22:09.96, Sarae Greenier 14th in 22:31.43 and Emily Austin 16th in 22:26.08.

     Tia Tardy of Orono had the winning time of 19:23.48 on the three-mile course.

     In the boys’ meet, Caribou posted 66 points. They were the runners-up to Orono’s 33. John Bapst was third with 98. Dylan Marrero, a sophomore, paced the Vikings by placing fourth in 17:41.43. Teammate Evan Desmond also cracked the top 10. He was ninth in 18:17.74. Alec Cyr was 14th (18:37.32) and Bryce Coffin 17th (18:53.46) for Caribou.

     John Hassett of George Stevens Academy came in first in 16:13.12.

     Last Wednesday, a relay meet was held in Houlton involving the smaller Aroostook County schools. LCS/MSSM came in first with 34 points, followed by GHCA with 23, Fort Kent with 14, Washburn with 12 and Houlton with 10.

     The team of Kassie Farley and Devon Maynard of Washburn took the co-ed title in 20:34. LCS/MSSM’s Bailey Chalmers and Oliver Wainman placed fourth in 23:25.

     In the girls’ race, Allison Johnson and Naomi Kihn of LCS/MSSM was second in 22:06, followed by teammates Hannah Nelson and Rothery Sullivan in 25:06. The Washburn duo of Molly Clark and Samantha White was sixth at 27:03.

     For the boys, James Cyr and David Govoni of LCS/MSSM placed first in 18:47. Washburn’s Konner Jordan and Brennan Viola came in sixth in 20:47.
