115 Years Ago – Sept. 25, 1901
Returning — John R. Nelson, Esq., the young lawyer who has been located in New Sweden for a year, has moved to this village and has fitted up offices in the Maley Building on Main Street. Mr. Nelson is a young man of strict integrity of character and many friends in New Sweden and Caribou wish him success in his change of location.
100 Years Ago – Sept. 28, 1916
Through digging — Some farmers are through digging potatoes — remarkably early to finish in September. The yield, while a good one, all things considered, is not a normal one.

75 Years Ago – Sept. 25, 1941
Petition for Ice Fishing killed — A hearing was held Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Ashland before Archer Grover, state representative of the Fish and Game Department to open the Aroostook River from the Ashland bridge to its head at the mouth of Munsungan Lake for ice fishing. No formal decision was made in terms of why the matter was closed.
Asphalt coating applied — Work on applying the tack coat of asphalt on the East-West runway at the Caribou Municipal Airport got underway Wednesday morning, according to an announcement made today by project engineer, Millard Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald estimates that work should be completed on this runway by the end of the week.
50 Years Ago – Sept. 28, 1966
School committee launches cultural proposal — Under consideration by the Caribou School Committee this week is a much-expanded version of an educational, cultural and recreational center for Aroostook County. The suggested facility now approaches a $1,000,000 investment. Its sponsors having been informed that a federal grant of up to $900,000 could also be available.
Furthering education — Mrs. Althea Turner, guidance director at Caribou High School, reports that over 30 percent of the Class of 1966 is seeking further education. Twenty-three students will be attending the University of Maine, nine are attending the Aroostook State College, and five are attending the Northern Maine Vocational Institute.
25 Years Ago – Sept. 25, 1991
County offices to move — Aroostook County’s Emergency Management Agency (EMA) was given a new home Monday night in the overall plan to expand office space for county government. The Caribou City Council voted to accept the EMA office to share the Emergency Operations Center space in the basement of the Caribou Public Library. Monday’s city council approval was part of a plan from the Aroostook County Commissioners aimed at trying to solve an office space dilemma within the region.
Cary extends to Van Buren — Cary Medical Center has initiated physical therapy services at the St. John Valley Health Center in Van Buren. The service, which will soon extend to three days per week, will make it more convenient for patients in the Van Buren area to receive regular therapy.
