Butera, Hixon among standouts
The Vikings were shut out at Presque Isle last Wednesday, 5-0, but the team was able to break its five-match losing streak Saturday by playing Foxcroft Academy to a scoreless tie.
Caribou is now 1-5-1 heading into Saturday’s home match against Hermon.
“It was a pretty exciting game with lots of opportunities to score,” said Viking coach Scott Hunter.
“Our boys were disappointed because as the game wore on, they could see that we were a better club.
“We had a lot of chances on balls bouncing in the box, especially the last 15 minutes or so, but just didn’t get the right bounce. It was definitely our most complete game as a team to date,” he added.
Caribou’s Noah Hixon had six saves on nine shots and FA’s Logan Butera saved eight of 14 shots.
Against the Wildcats three days earlier, the Vikes surrendered four first-half goals in the rout. Caribou was outshot by a margin of 19-6.
