Andrew C. Farley |
His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that loved him dearly. “Andy Bear,” as he was affectionately known, was born on April 4, 1997, in Caribou, the son of Albert and Nicole (Hersey) Farley. Andy’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by him understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. His mischievous smile and contagious belly laugh would bring joy to everyone around him.
Though he never spoke a word, his voice and thoughts could always be heard. Although Andy’s illness made his life very difficult, he possessed great strength, perseverance, and an ability to overcome incredible odds and physical challenges. With his courage, he led us to believe that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories. He enjoyed playing with his stuffed animal “Bear,” watching his favorite TV shows, such as the “Dukes of Hazard,” “Spongebob,” and he especially loved Disney Movies. He also loved attending special programs with his special friend Marylyn “Mare.”
He spent many summer days at Cross Lake with his family, where he loved to play in the sand box, fishing, sitting by the campfire, and boat rides. He along with his family also enjoyed camping trips to Bar Harbor and New Hampshire. They also were able to travel to Disney World through the Make a Wish Foundation that created many lifelong memories for all.
With Andy’s passing we remind others that his life is one to be celebrated. Although we will miss him every day, especially his smile and mischievous laugh. He will forever remain in our hearts. Through his teachings about life, we were able to create wonderful memories and it has been a privilege to be his parents. We are so thankful for the support of family, friends, coworkers and all who played such an important part in Andy’s life Andy leaves behind many wonderful caregivers that provided love and support that enhanced his quality of life.
Andy’s life was extended because of his loving family, the wonderful nurses at the Caribou Rehab and Nursing Center, Dr. Carl Flynn, teachers and staff at the Woodland School, and the Caribou Fire and Ambulance. There is a special place in our hearts for Andy’s “Meme,” Verna Espling, whom he loved dearly. There are many others, too numerous to mention, who provided Andy with love and gave him dignity in his life and also in his death. For this we will be forever grateful.
Andy is survived by his loving parents, Albert and Nicole Farley of Woodland; his brother, Bobby, who could always make Andy laugh and was and always will be his “Big Brother;” grandparents Robert and Nancy Hersey of Woodland, along with Albert Farley Sr. of Woodland; great-grandmother Mabel Wilcox; Uncles and Aunts; Todd and Sherri Parker, Lance and Lori Albair, Mark and Jessica Farley; cousins; Alexis, Kay-Lee, Ethan, Landan, Lacey, Britney, Austin, Charlie, Tiffany, and Amber; also, Aunt Sandi and Uncle Chuck, Uncle Dave, Uncle Mike and Aunt Mary Huston were very special to him as he was to them. He was predeceased by his grandmother, Evelina Farley; great-grandparents, Charlie and Lorraine Huston, Pearly and Hazel Hersey and Clifton Wilcox.
