The Caribou Vikings finished in the middle of the pack at the Penobscot Valley Conference Championships, held at JaTo Highlands in Lincoln Thursday.
As part of the Class B competition, the Vikings had a score of 397, which was good for fifth place out of eight teams. Only the top three — Old Town (326), Mount Desert Island (368) and Hermon (375) — made it into the field for this Saturday’s state team event at Natanis Golf Club in Vassalboro.
Connor Plourde had the Vikings’ low score with a 96, while teammate Bailey Griffeth was just a stroke back. Noah Rosado (101), Stewart Curtis (103) and Gabe Rand (106) were the other Caribou competitors.
The Vikes, under second-year coach Marc Weeks, finished ahead of John Bapst, Foxcroft Academy and Ellsworth. Presque Isle was one slot and three strokes clear of Caribou
In a tuneup for the PVCs, held the previous afternoon at JaTo, Caribou played a dual match against Presque Isle and lost by 22 strokes, 200-222.
Rosado paced Caribou with a 51, followed by Curtis with a 55 and Plourde with a 57. The team finished 4-12 on the season.
