LIMESTONE — Wilfred J. Deane, Sr., age 88 of Buckfield, formerly of Limestone, was called home Monday, October 3, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Wilfred was born in Ft. Farfield, ME on November 26, 1927, a son of Elmer and Palmira (Dubay) Deane and was educated in local schools there.
He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and served on the USS Turner. His awards and decorations include the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Area Medal.
Mr. Deane worked for the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad for over 37 years and was a conductor and brakeman. He was a Life Member of the Lockhart VFW Post 6157 in Ft. Fairfield and served as Post Commander in 1991, 92, 95, 96, 99, and 2000, served as District Commander in 1995 – 96, and was National Assistant Inspector General in 2000 – 2001. He was also a member of the American Legion in Ft. Fairfield and had attended the John D. Long American Legion Post in Buckfield.
He married Jean LeFrancois on April 13, 1950.
Wilfred is predeceased by a daughter, Virginia Thornton in 2003; a grandson, Travis Rossignol in 1989; two brothers, Elmer, Jr. and Soloman; and a sister, Rosie Bubar.
Mr. Deane leaves behind his wife, Jean of Buckfield; a son, Wilfred J. Deane, Jr. and his wife, Teresa of Buckfield; a daughter, Sharon Rozier and her husband, Randy of Ft. Worth, TX; a brother, Donald of Ft. Fairfield; a sister, Jessie Davenport of Ft. Fairfield; five grandchildren, Sonya Swartout, Heather Turner, Nicholas Rozier, Ashley Adams, and Wilfred, J. Deane, III.; and 15 great- grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, October 15, at the Buckfield Community Church. Burial will be at a later date at the St. Louis Cemetery in Limestone.
