Caribou Absentee ballots due Nov. 3
CARIBOU, Maine — While many are talking about Trump and Clinton, several individuals are running for local and state positions in the upcoming election.
Voters in Caribou and Connor can choose between Bruce Poliquin and Emily Cain for a District 2 representative to Congress, Timothy Guerrette and Troy Jackson for District 1 State Senator, and between Carol McElwee and Ginette Rivard for District 149 Legislative Representative.
Additionally, James Dunleavy is running for Aroostook County Judge of Probate, Melissa Richardson and Nichol Roy are running for Aroostook Southern District Register of Deeds, and incumbent Paul Underwood is running for County Commissioner.
Those running for three-year local terms include David Martin and Joan Theriault for City Council, Nicole Cote and Tanya Sleeper for RSU 39 Board, and Athill Hebert for the Jefferson Cary Memorial Hospital Fund.
A non-binding advisory question will also appear on the ballot, asking Caribou residents if the city should continue to own and maintain the downtown mall parking lots.
Along with those living in Caribou, residents of Woodland, New Sweden, Stockholm, and Limestone can vote on five referendum issues during the November 8 election. These issues include the legalization of marijuana for recreational use, a 3 percent tax on income above $200,000 to create a fund for K-12 education, background checks on the sale and transfer of firearms, raising the minimum wage, and ranked elections.
