CARIBOU, Maine — A friendly lip syncing and dance contest will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, at the Caribou Performing Arts Center as a fundraiser for Hope & Justice Project.
Sync It Up, Caribou! will include a lip syncing and dance competition for participants of all ages, as well as a remembrance ceremony for the many individuals and families who have been killed as a result of domestic violence in the state of Maine.
The event will be hosted by Hope & Justice Project to recognize October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. There will be a suggested donation of $5 at the door.
“Domestic violence is the reason why my aunt and cousins are not with us today,” said Emilee Lothrop of Caribou. “It’s important to me to be a part of this event to help educate the community and prevent homicides like my aunt’s and cousins’.”
Lothrop’s late aunt, Tina Cousins, and her two children, Cortina and Cody, were killed by her husband and their father in 1998. Lothrop, who is the reigning Teen Miss Ashland, will perform a tribute dance for the Cousins family in their memory.
Anyone who is interested is welcome to perform at this event. Dress rehearsal will take place just before the event, beginning at 5 p.m. that evening.
