CARIBOU — National hospital safety organization The Leapfrog Group has once again awarded a top grade of A to Cary Medical Center in its newest round of patient safety ratings.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, which assign A, B, C, D and F letter grades to hospitals nationwide, were announced Oct. 31 by the national patient safety watchdog.
Hospital officials said with this A rating, Cary has accomplished the difficult task of being awarded Straight A’s since the inception of the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade in 2012. Cary is one of 72 hospitals out of over 2,600 across the country to attain this honor.
Kris Doody, RN and CEO at Cary, said earning straight A’s is a remarkable demonstration of the consistency of the hospital’s patient safety and quality effort.
“To be among only 72 hospitals nationwide to score straight A’s since the Leapfrog Group began providing letter grades to hospitals based on patient safety practices demonstrates that patient safety and high quality clinical standards have become a way of life here at our hospital. It is a tribute to our entire Cary family.”
Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, also noted the hospital’s exceptional performance.

Developed under the guidance of an Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to grade U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
