CHS honor society inducts 16 new members

     Sixteen members of the Caribou High School junior and senior classes were recently inducted into the school’s National Honor Society.

     This year marks the 89th year of continuous service of the National Honor Society; the oldest operating student organization at Caribou High School, according to Ken Atcheson, one of the group’s advisers.

     Five seniors and 11 juniors were elected to membership by the NHS Faculty Council of the Caribou Chapter. They are Bryce Coffin, Casey Dobson, Kendra Furber, Kirsten Haney and Erin Kashian of the Class of 2017 and Evan Desmond, Meagan Dube, Camden Dumont, Emerson Duplissie-Cyr, Searra Herbert, Gabriele Marquis, Ashley Matlock, Anya O’Meara, Ciara Richards, Rachel Ring and Nicholas Sleeper representing the CHS Class of 2018.

A Chicken Parmesan dinner with mix of fresh vegetables, courtesy of the CHS Culinary Art Program and instructor Kathleen Bell, preceded the induction ceremony.

    Parents of NHS Alumni, under the direction of Patricia Anderson decorated the hall with white tablecloths, and matching NHS white and gold place mats, dinner napkins and individual dinner place cards for each member and their invited guests. Each table was festooned with beautiful arrangements.

     Student volunteers from the Classes of 2019 and 2020 helped to serve dinner. Caribou High School Kitchen Manager Carla Godin supervised the meal preparation.

     The Pin and Oath induction ceremony followed the dinner, presided over by Caribou NHS Chapter President Madison Doucette. Travis Barnes, principal of Caribou High School administered the oath to the 16 new inductees.

     Each new inductee was given a presentation bouquet of flowers in the colors of the National Honor Society, to award to special guest in the audience. Doucette also chaired the Induction Ceremony portion of the evening.

     The officers of the Caribou Chapter and responsible chairperson are: Doucette, president; Julia Page, vice president; Madeline Gudde, recording secretary; Rachel Soucy, corresponding secretary; Heather LaMothe, Executive Council; and Samantha Fortin, Maine State Executive Board member. The NHS group is also advised by Shannon Sleeper.
