HS Basketball tourneys scheduled

     Tryouts were held just over a week ago and now local high school teams are already getting ready for some exhibition game action in preparation for the start of the regular season.

    Preseason basketball tournaments are taking place in Caribou, Presque Isle, Mars Hill and Washburn over the next few days.

     An admission fee will be charged at all the venues and concessions are available.

      Caribou and Presque Isle are collaborating to host their annual Tip-Off Tournament Friday and Saturday.

     The Vikings will host Gray-New Gloucester Friday, with the girls’ game beginning at 6 p.m. and the boys’ game at 7:30 p.m. That same evening in Presque Isle, the Wildcat girls take on Brewer at 6 p.m., with the boys meeting up against the Witches at 7:30 p.m.

     The opponents flip flop the following day, with Caribou’s opponent being Brewer for contests at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., beginning with the girls. Presque Isle hosts Gray-New Gloucester Saturday at 10 and 11:30 a.m. — girls’ game first.

     On Friday and Saturday, Central Aroostook Junior-Senior High School in Mars Hill will be the site of a boys’ preseason tournament.

     On Friday, Ashland squares off against Easton at 5:30 p.m., with Washburn playing the host Panthers at 7 p.m.

     Saturday will see the Hornets taking on the Beavers at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Panthers against the Bears at 7 p.m.

     Next Monday, Dec. 5 and Tuesday, Dec. 6, Washburn will host the girls’ version of the tourney. In On the first day, Ashland plays Easton at 5:30 p.m. and Washburn and Central Aroostook will play the nightcap at 7 p.m. On Dec. 6, the Bears will take on the Panthers at 5:30 p.m., followed by Beavers against the Hornets at 7 p.m.

     An all-star team and a tourney MVP will be named following the tourneys in Mars Hill and Washburn.

     The first day for regular season basketball games is Friday, Dec. 9.
