Returns —Caribou’s vote Wednesday on the one-half cent gas tax referendum and election of the State Senator resulted as follows: Gas tax: “Yes” 113, “No” 125, for state senator: Waldo Burgess (R) – 181, Clayton Steele (D) – 59. Unofficial returns from the county give Burgess about a 2 to 1 margin.

Lights, lights, lights — Hundreds of new seasonal lights have been added to the downtown scene in Caribou this year, bringing back the old-fashioned Christmas effect that had been missing for some years.
Coffee House committee to show film — The newly formed Coffee House steering committee will show the color film “Coffee House Rendezvous” in the Rotary Room of the Hotel Caribou next Monday evening at 7. The film is part of a continuing discussion in Caribou regarding a coffee house for high school students here.

Recycle — The white and yellow pages section of the 1991-92 editions of the NYNEX Yellow Pages for Augusta, Houlton and Northern Aroostook were printed on recycled paper manufactured by Fraser Paper, Ltd. in Madawaska. The recycled content of each section is 10 to 12 percent.
Corrow awarded scholarship — Beth Corrow, a senior business major at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, was recently awarded the school’s McDonald’s Scholarship for the second consecutive year. The scholarship is based both on academic and athletic achievements throughout the school year. Corrow, a 1988 CHS graduate, is the daughter of Greg and Ellen Corrow.
